NRA AD: Freedom's Safest Place | The Violence Of Lies
The ad starts off with a woman (Dana Loesch) talking about (liberals) and how they influence the media to make people believe lies. This appeals to ethos because she is explaining to the audience on how groups (such as ANTIFA) in America are causing havoc across the country. As she is talking, the video has multiple pictures and videos as examples of what she is talking about. This obviously appeals most to pathos, because it appeals to emotion, and makes you feel disgusted. The last method of persuasion, logos, is supported by her saying the only way to save America and our Freedom is to fight the lies with the truth (and by joining the NRA).
You've clearly identified the appeals, so good for you! I wonder if you could elaborate by asking about the information contained in this ad? It's obviously very biased, and is it wholly logical? Do you know what ANTIFA stands for? (because I think most of us are not really rushing to support Fascists, right?). Also, use of the term "media" is so broad. Which media? Which ideologically-oriented media? There's a lot to worry in this "ad," which isn't so much an ad as a kind of propaganda tool (the through line being, "don't be liberal"). I find this video disturbing also in terms of delivery -- what of her style of delivery? Lots to wonder about , here!
ReplyDeleteI know what ANTIFA stands for, but I don't support them simply for the fact that they use violence as a means of getting their way. By media, I mostly mean mainstream media, like CNN, MSNBC, Buzzfeed, etc etc. Personally I think it depends on the point of view. Some people can see it as propaganda, or others can see it as reality. Is there always a single answer to everything? I'd like to think not. Whatever our views on the NRA, her style of delivery is obviously aggressive and assertive.
DeleteApologies on the late reply, my time management needs a lot of work.
